Streams (rivers) of Consciousness

I am in the mood to write. I have no topic. I've started about 5 different posts to no avail. My random thoughts keep getting in the way. So, here is my stream of consciousness. Maybe it'll help.
It's doubtful this will ever be posted.

  • It's Christmas!!
  • I am enjoying this Christmas season so so so much. I made cookies with the kids yesterday and just enjoyed every second of it. Halfway through the sprinkle fest Reagan said, "Mom, thanks for making Christmas fun and special. This is the best Christmas ever." I almost fell over. It was the sweetest thing.
  • Cleaning up the red and green sanding sugar and sprinkles from all over the neighborhood house kitchen was not the sweetest thing ever. I'm still finding bits of it. eh. at least it's festive.
  • Reagan wants eggs for dinner. This is one of my favorite things to feed the kids. I get my eggs right down the road at an Amish farm and can see the cute little brown chickens roaming around the farm. It makes me so happy. I love that they're fresh, healthy eggs. And cheap! bonus!
  • Someday I want my own chickens. I don't think I'm allowed where we live, although I've seriously contemplated turning the kids' playhouse into a coop. I don't think my husband neighbors would be happy. They're still recovering from our sprinkle fest... don't know that adding feathers to the mess would be wise.
  • I really like to eat chicken. I really like my crockpot. I do not always have success with chicken in my crockpot. It tends to get dried out after a whole day while I'm at work, and that's the time I use it the most. I am trying to find a solution to this problem. Suggestions? Recipes to share?
  • I used my crock pot today to bake potatoes while we were at church. Not sure why it took me so long to have a revelation that this would be possible, but it might be my most favorite new thing to do... the possibilities are endless for toppings and it's such an easy thing to do in the morning before work. I'm going to do sweet potatoes next time! Mmm. Sweet potatoes.
  • Marshmallows. Roasted. I used to not like these. But a few years ago, I suddenly liked them. This past summer on vacation I ate 13 in one evening. It's not something I'm proud of, but I figure if you squish them altogether it really isn't as bad as it sounds... roughly the size of a normal dessert. right? We'll go with yes on this one.
Conversation I just had with Anna:
Anna: Mom, I want hamandeggs.
Me: What? I just made eggs for Reagan and you said you didn't want any.
Anna: That's because I didn't want eggs. I want hamandeggs.
Can't argue with the logic of 3 year olds.

  • Anyone who wonders what takes up a mother's day can read the above conversation and hopefully be enlightened. I just made eggs twice, washed two pans and spatulas. Lest you think I am a short order cook, Sunday evenings are our "picky" evenings. After a late after church lunch we usually just eat randomly throughout the evening as we each get a hankering.
  • Speaking of... I might end this randomness and get some veggies/dip clementines cookies to eat.
  • It's Christmas!!
Hey... this wasn't too offensive. Maybe I'll post after all.
The majority of the thoughts in my stream of consciousness are food related. Huh.

  1. What chicken are you using? I use boneless/skinless thighs in the CP and I've never had them dry. I throw the chicken in (season), a jar of salsa, a can of black beans, and frozen corn. Cook. Shortly before serving, add a brick of cream cheese. Serve over penne.

  2. @Thia - Yeah, I thought last week that I should start using boneless/skinless thighs instead of breasts. I'll do that next time Sounds good!!
