He Healed them All
I've been studying some verses lately. They've been thought provoking, comforting and
challenging to me all at the same time. Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of what
Jesus really did in the few short years that he ministered on this earth. He
loved people, and he demonstrated that love by teaching and healing them. He
touched the untouchable. He never turned anyone away. Not. Even.
Once.
I know it's a lot of verses, but please take a moment to read. They are so impactful, especially when read together.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Matthew 4:23
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
“He Himself took our infirmities
And bore our sicknesses." Matthew 8:16-17
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Matthew 9:35
And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. Matthew 12:15
And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. Matthew 14:14
And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. Matthew 14:35-36
Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well. Mark 6:56
When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. Luke 4:40
And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all. Luke 6:19
But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. Luke 9:11
He healed them all. This statement is so unbelievable when you really think about it. If our current society is a similar indicator, there were sick people everywhere. Imagine Jesus coming into your community - those you love who are sick or hurting - and touching them. Every. Single. One. It's mind blowing.
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease...And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:1, 7-8
And then not only did Jesus heal those he could touch, he also commissioned his disciples to do the same. He asked them to be His representatives and act as he had acted. Touching. Loving. Healing. Restoring.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20
"The Great Commission", some of Jesus' most famous words. And yet how often do we stop to think about what that means? He first brought his 12 Disciples together and commanded them to go healing and preaching. And then, just as the disciples had become representatives of Jesus, he commanded them to continue to reproduce. If we are Christ-followers, we are his disciples. And if we are his disciples, we are commanded to do as he did. Loving. Touching. Healing. He leaves us with the promise that he is with us always and Hebrews gives us the promise that he never changes. He's the same Jesus that he was when he was here on Earth. He's the same Jesus that loved, touched and healed. The same Jesus that was with Peter and John is with you and me. Incredible.

Jesus
Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
